What should you take hunting

What should you take hunting?

Hunting season's coming up, so what should you take with you for emergencies? For life-threatening injuries, I'm going to take something like this OUT-PAK, which has everything I need to stop major hemorrhage, so it's going to have a tourniquet on it.

You're also going to see lacerations, so in treating lacerations, we want to make sure we're stopping the bleeding. Minor ones are fairly easy to treat with just direct pressure and some gauze. That could be anything from band-aids to compressed gauze. You might have another pressure dressing in there. I like to have something like this Burntec Hydrogel dressing.

We also see a lot of orthopedic injuries when we're out in the wilderness and that could be from a fall from a tree stand. That could be tripping over a root. And so what I want to do is take some splinting material with me. I like to always have at least one SAM Splint with me. Ideally two. Stabilize that fracture, and wrap it with the ACE bandage. I always like to have some tape and a triangular bandage or a cravat. You can sling, you can swathe.

That's just a few items I like to have on me when I go hunting and I think might be useful for you. So be safe out there and good luck this season.
